We could call Jens Buis (1998, Groningen) a “filmographic painter.” Existing video images are cut up into a series of stills. Using a special technique (lenticular), these fragments are then assembled into a single whole. As the viewer moves around the work, it comes to life. This dynamic interaction is enhanced by a combination of mystical forms, seductive colors, and organic movements. Themes such as time, connection, presence, and synchronicity serve as the conceptual basis here. He is not afraid of aesthetics; on the contrary, he searches poetically for the sublime.
